A Canadian-based entertainment company wants to put the power of shaping the media industry back into the hands of the consumer.
E.C. Forbes, an account manager for Yeah Media, said the company is interested in going nation wide, beginning with large colleges and universities. Besides visiting USM, Forbes will talk with students at LSU, Mississippi State and Tulane, he said.
According to information on their Web site (www.yeahmedia.com), Yeah Media, which is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, is a "unique media and entertainment company dedicated to providing quality entertainment" to their members.
Yeah Media uses a marketing model which allows its members to "share in the overall success of the company," according to information on the Web site. Students sign up for free online to become members and then vote on independent performing artists, their favorite movies and even print magazines they like.
"By voting on what they like, [students] are creating the media," said Forbes. "The music they vote on will become available to the public."
Forbes said Yeah Media is also there to help independent artists by exposing their work to thousands of viewers across the country. Forbes said Yeah Media even packages the content and sends it out to members.
"Yeah Media is making a venue available to incoming artists," he said. "Yeah Media is dedicated to connecting the best independent and emerging artists to consumers."
